SF Sketchfest is seeking a skilled technical director with excellent organizational skills and technical knowledge to work with the Director of Production to advance, execute and manage technical elements of all shows during the festival. This position requires competency in sound, projection, lighting and basic carpentry.
Anticipated dates of employment: December 4, 2023 – February 9, 2024
Reports to: Director of Production
Responsibilities include:
- Act as primary on-the-ground technical point of contact for production department
- Load-in Venues at top of festival, including staging, soft goods, projection and sound systems, and setting basic lighting looks.
- Expected working days are Thursday-Monday
- Load-out Venues at the end of festival.
- Pick ups and returns of rental gear throughout the festival.
- Perform pre-production walk-thrus of festival venues.
- Technical troubleshooting of venues
- Assist with projection and sound gear research and purchasing
- Assist with hiring show staff
- Help train technicians
- Run shows when assigned
- Maintain festival gear inventories
- Make required gear lists for shows
- Transportation of technical gear between venues throughout the festival
- Post-festival wrap report completed by February 10
Qualifications
- 3+ years of stage technician experience
- Detailed Knowledge of Sound & Projection
- Basic carpentry and lighting knowledge
- Detail Oriented and well Organized
- Awesome communication skills
- Ability to work well under pressure
- Experience using Google Docs
- Must have valid/clean CA driver’s license
- Owning full size vehicle or truck is a plus
- Stage Management/House Tech/Multi-Source Experience a Plus
- Sense of Humor Required

Associate Production Manager (multiple openings)

Seeking skilled production managers with excellent organizational skills and with sound & lighting competency. APMs advance shows in an assigned venue, then serve as Stage Manager and primary technician for said venue during the festival. Position is part-time remote until festival, then required availability is determined by venue. Nights and weekends required.
Anticipated dates of employment: October 30, 2023 – February 9, 2024
Reports to: Director of Production
Responsibilities include:
- Liaise with talent to determine all technical requirements of shows
- Act as festival representative on site
- Coordinate with venue staff
- Stage manage shows
- Supervise festival technicians in venue
- Assist with hiring show staff
- Assist with staff training
- Make production schedules for assigned venues
- File performance reports
- Stage manage additional shows at other venues as assigned
- Troubleshoot production problems as they arise (technical, and logistical)
- Post-festival wrap report completed by February 10
Qualifications
- 5+ years of stage management or production management
- Basic Audio and Technical Production Knowledge (Can operate a sound board, basic understanding of projection and lighting.)
- Awesome communication skills
- Ability to work under pressure, often with competing priorities
- Ability to be diplomatic during high stress conflicts
- Detail oriented
- Self-Motivated
- Computer Savvy
- Experienced using Google Docs
- Sense of Humor Required

Stage Manager (multiple openings)

Seeking experienced stage managers with broad technical knowledge to run shows during the festival. This is a temporary, hourly position. Assignments are show by show with anticipated required availability of Friday-Sundays during the festival.
Anticipated dates of employment: January 15 – February 9, 2024
Reports to: Director of Production
Responsibilities:
- Assist with load-in of venues at top of festival
- Assist with load-out of venues at the end of festival
- Assist with the set-up and break down of bands
- Ensure technical requirements of performances are executed to specifications
- Manage talent and assist with backstage hospitality
- Liaise with venue staff for running of performances
- Act as festival representative to talent and venues
- Call shows, and run lights, sound, and/or projection cues as needed
- Assist with scene changes or show change-overs as needed
Qualifications
- 3+ years of stage management experience in theatrical or tradeshow environments
- Experience running and programming light boards preferred
- Experience setting up and running sound systems a plus
- Experience with QLab preferred
- Ability to work well under pressure
- Sense of humor required
Stage Technician (multiple openings)

Seeking skilled stagehands and technicians with broad technical knowledge to run shows during the festival. Also seeking people with specialization in audio. This is a temporary, hourly position. Assignments are show by show with anticipated required availability of Friday-Sundays during the festival.
Anticipated dates of employment: January 15 – February 9, 2024
Reports to: Director of Production
Responsibilities include:
- Assist with load-in of Venues at top of festival
- Assist with load-out of Venues at the end of festival
- Assist with the set-up and break down of bands
- Assist with basic stage carpentry (hanging soft goods, assembling platforms, etc)
- Record audio of shows as needed
- Run lights, sound, and/or projections as needed at performances.
- Assist with scene changes or show change-overs as needed.
Qualifications
- 3+ years of stage technician experience
- Experience running and programming light boards
- Experience setting up and running sound systems
- Experience with QLab a plus
- Basic projection knowledge
- Basic carpentry knowledge
- Ability to work well under pressure
- Stage Management/Multi-Source Technician experience a Plus
- Sense of Humor Required
