with Eddie Pepitone

The Bitter Buddha takes an unconventional journey with a true “comic’s comic”. For a few decades, Eddie Pepitone has proven to be a startling force in the alt-comedy scene. We follow Eddie as he deals with a middle-age career surge, while struggling with self-doubt, sobriety, and a challenging family history. Original animation, stand-up comedy and engaging interviews with Patton Oswalt, Sarah Silverman, Marc Maron and others help us gain insight into the life of a beloved career comedian known as “the guitarist that all the other guitarists go to see.” As one of the best-kept secrets in the scene, Eddie Pepitone is documented in this unhinged portrait of creativity, enlightenment and rage.

SF Sketchfest in the Mission:
The Elsie Bo ShowOnassisTMI and host Greg Barris

Laura was raised in Hong Kong, Thailand and Malaysia. She originally trained as an actress but later settled on working as a governess /Mary Poppins to oligarchs and sheiks in Russia and Abu Dhabi. The positive reaction to her stories and observations from her life abroad, prompted the move into comedy. She trained as a stand-up with Logan Murray (Amused Moose London) and today can be found showcasing her eccentric and original characters on the London stand-up circuit. She recently launched ‘The Elsie Bo Show’ producing sketches and short films. 2013 is a busy year for Laura with gigs planned in Edinburgh, New York and San Francisco!

Originating as a house sketch team at The Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre, Onassis has gone on to win acclaim as one of the best comedy groups in New York City and was recently named Best Sketch Team at the Friars Club 2011 National Sketch Competition. This October saw the sold out, world premiere of their 22-min TV pilot during the annual Friars Club Comedy Festival. Don’t Watch This Show Live with Brody StevensThe Elsie Bo Show,TMI and host Joey Devine

SF Sketchfest is proud to present their ongoing series of showcases at the intimate Dark Room Theatre in the Mission District! Some of the best emerging sketch, improv, stand-up and alternative comedy in the country and the world!

Don’t Watch This Show LIVE! is a collective of stand up comedians doing something different in comedy. They perform sketches, shoot comedy videos, shorts, and perform stand up and improv. DWTSL! is the only full show doing this type of production in San Francisco mostly because we are better than everyone else and more funny and beautiful and God knows we deserve more attention than we are getting and anyone who thinks otherwise is a Redcoat. #noswag

TMI is a weekly sketch show that has been playing for the last 6 months to sold-out houses every Sunday night at The Second City, Hollywood. Each week, some of Second City, Hollywood’s most talented actors and writers come together to create a new show, hosted by the most famous person who condescends to work with us. Pop Culture, Politics, Sports – when a story breaks in Hollywood, we’re there with the Crazy Glue. TMI – it’s the sketch comedy equivalent of being trapped in a car with Chris Brown.

Joey Devine is from the San Francisco Bay Area. He considers himself to be an absurdist, pop culture, storyteller. Which when jammed together like that makes no sense. He is a writer/performer for Yahoo.com’s Broken News Daily a daily comedy news show that gets millions of hits a month. His credits include IFC, The SF Punch Line, The Purple Onion, Things We Made, and The Business. He chose comedy, because his one true love, The Golden State Warriors, spurned him many years ago. He is terrible at basketball.

SF Sketchfest Thressome: Wayne Federman, Eddie Pepitone and Brody Stevens

SF Sketchfest Threesome
with Wayne FedermanEddie Pepitone and Brody Stevens hosted by Chris Garcia

Wayne Federman is a comedian, actor, comedy writer, and author. He has performed on The Tonight Show, Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, and has his own half‐hour stand‐up special on Comedy Central. He is noted for numerous brief comedic appearances in films like The 40YearOld Virgin, Legally Blonde, 50 First Dates, Knocked Up, Step Brothers, and Funny People.  He portrayed “Dean Weinstock” on HBO’s Curb Your Enthusiasm and has also appeared on The League, The Wizards of Waverly Place, and The Larry Sanders Show. Wayne was the head monologue writer for NBC’s Late Night with Jimmy Fallon and just received a WGA Award nomination for writing the 2012 The Independent Spirit Awards.  He hosts an annual Christmas show at Largo and The Wayne Federman International Film Festival at CineFamily and also co‐authored the bestselling sports biography MARAVICH (“The definitive biography of Pistol Pete Maravich” ESPN). www.WayneFederman.com

They call him the Bitter Buddha, comedian Eddie Pepitone is a master of the dark art of comedy. Hailed as a modern day cross between Jackie Gleason, Don Rickles and Eckart Tolle. Eddie is a force of nature on stage, switching between social rage and self-doubt. His shows are an energetic combo of calm and chaos, blue-collar angst and sardonic enlightenment. Few comedians working today channel the power of the rant better than Eddie Pepitone. In addition to his regular stand-up shows, Eddie is stand-out comic/character actor. Beginning in New York City’s improv/sketch scene (where he quickly became a regular face), and continuing on to recurring roles on Late Night with Conan O’Brien. Eddie has also appeared on numerous comedy TV shows, including The Life and Times of Tim, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, The Sarah Silverman Program, Jimmy Kimmel Live, Last Comic Standing, and Chappelle’s Show. Fans also might recognize Pepitone from his role in the hit comedy Old School or from his multiple award-winning short, Runyon: Just Above Sunset. Eddie is also an accomplished dramatic actor, having appeared on Law and Order: Criminal Intent, The Beat, and Now and Again. After a nationwide tour with the acclaimed Chicago City Limits improv company Eddie settled down in Los Angeles, where he still performs today. Not one to be sedate, however, Eddie still tours the country regularly, having performed at some of the biggest venues in the comedy scene including The Improv, Caroline’s on Broadway, Largo at the Coronet, and both the LA and NY Upright Citizens Brigade Theaters. Nowadays Eddie can frequently be found on his must-follow Twitter, co-hosting the popular comedy podcast The Long Shot (now in its fourth season), and writing/appearing in the hit web series: Puddin’. Eddie has released his FIRST Live Comedy Album! Recorded at Gotham Comedy Club earlier this year, A Great Stillness has been highly anticipated since its announcement. The Huffington Post even went so far as to say, “…we highly recommend it as a stocking stuffer for everyone you know who thinks they know comedy.” You can buy A Great Stillness on iTunes or Amazon MP3 right now! www.eddiepepitone.com

Brody Stevens is a comedian who possesses that always elusive natural character. Many on the inside call him, “The Entertainers’ Entertainer.” Let’s not forget the English speaking audiences! Citizens of the world, both young and old, continue to support this eclectic personality as he attempts to bridge the gap between man and crowd. After retiring from a successful amateur baseball career at 23, where many of his former teammates have gone on to make millions in the major leagues, Stevens found his calling in Seattle where he began doing stand up in the mid-’90s, working out of the Comedy Underground and other notable Emerald City establishments. In addition to his stage work, The Brody Stevens Cable Access TV Show was a cult favorite throughout the Pacific Northwest. The show was zany, in your face, and live for two years, adding much needed spunk to Seattle’s dreary climate. Then it was off to New York City! Three years in the Big Apple, he did everything from the ultra-hip Luna Lounge to the Lower East Side street theater. On top of that, he gave tours at Radio City Music Hall. Currently active in the Los Angeles comedy scene, Stevens is no stranger to the limelight of national exposure. His many credits include Comedy Central’s Premium Blend, Sarah Silverman: Jesus Is Magic, CBS’ The Late Late Show with Craig Kilborn three times, five counting re-runs, R2PC: Road to Park City at Slamdance Film Festival, NBC’s Late Friday and PAX TV’s Ed McMahon’s Next Big Star. Another fact, Stevens has paneled on National Lampoon’s Funny Money, sketched at Jimmy Kimmel Live!,passed FX’s The Test with Jillian Barberie, and was a daily contributor for The Best Damn Sports Show Period on Fox. Corporate functions and roast opportunities are being fielded as well, it’s just a fact, from the Texas Rangers to Tom Arnold’s celebrity galas. A side note, Stevens has been brought in on numerous television projects, bringing the best out of each and every tourist type spectator attending a taping here in the city of Hollywood. Stevens calls this a valued skill. Stevens has also appeared in several films, including both hit Hangover movies. He has tamed audiences at the upstart Chicago Just for Laughs Comedy Festival and Vancouver Just for Laughs Comedy Festival. He also has a hit web series called Brody Stevens: Enjoy It! on HBOGO.

Chris Garcia is a comedian and writer, who recently relocated from San Francisco to Los Angeles, California. Chris is the recipient of the 2010 Dan Crawford Memorial Scholarship, an annual honor given to the San Francisco Punchline Comedy Club’s comedian of the year. He was recently named one of the Bay Area’s “Top 5 Comedians to Watch” by the San Jose Mercury News, and was awarded a 2010 Silver Nail by Rooftop Comedy, an award recognizing 8 of the top up and coming comedians in the country. In September of 2011, Chris was named the “Funniest Man in Berkeley.” His festival appearances include SF Sketchfest (2008-2011), the Bridgetown Comedy Festival (2009&2011), and the Aspen Rooftop Comedy Festival.

Harmontown / This Feels Terrible

Harmontown with Dan Harmon and Jeff B. Davis
This Feels Terrible with Erin McGathy and Dan Harmon

Harmontown:
People always ask us “What is Harmontown?” and that’s a tough question to answer, but here’s the closest thing we’ve got: The countdown continues due to overwhelming demand: Attend a town meeting in a land free of brevity, where Mayor Dan Harmon (creator of NBC’s Community) and Comptroller Jeff B. Davis (Whose Line is it Anyway?) take another small, drunken step toward colonizing the moon. Evening may include ineffectual rants, songs, shameful stories, special guests, forehead sweat and repeated exposure to the phrases “like,” uh,” “sort of” and “you know.”

This Feels Terrible:
Comedian and repeat relationship failure, Erin McGathy talks love, sex and all matters of heartbreak in the podcast version of her live show originally performed at the Upright Citizen’s Brigade Theatre. Each week features a revealing, intimate and joyfully-terrible conversation with a different comedian friend, famous-ish person or drunk ex-boyfriend. Let’s get terrible.

You laugh, we laugh, we all hook up at the end. EndGames is an SF-based improv theater and school.  We produce six shows weekly at StageWerx in the Mission District, including “Harold Night”, the return of our run-away hit “Confessions”, and, as always, “Your F@#$ed-Up Relationship”.  Check out our shows and classes at endgamesimprov.com.

Thunderstood is multimedia one man sketch show that has been performed at comedy festivals across the country.  Armed with a projector and a truly odd point of view AJ Schraeder takes you through a stream of conscious presentation of how he sees reality.  In 2012 Thunderstood was awarded the title of “Best Sketch Group” at Shadowbox live’s 4th annual Sketch Contest judged by original SNL cast Member Garrett Morris. Julie Lawless of rhum.org described his 2012 performance at SF sketchfest as “ridiculously hilarious”, and spinningplatters.com said the show “showed exceptional stamina and satirical prowess”.

SF Sketchfest is delighted to honor IFC’s groundbreaking hit comedy show Portlandia and its creators Fred Armisen, Carrie Brownstein and Jonathan Krisel with an in-person conversation, a selection of hilarious clips, and a lively audience Q & A to celebrate the Emmy-nominated and Peabody Award-winning series, which kicks off its third season in January with Armisen and Brownstein again starring as a variety of wonderfully eccentric characters that inhabit their dreamy rendering of Portland, Oregon. From its first season debut in 2011, the show– which is shot entirely on location in Portland, Oregon– quickly developed a devoted following by critics and fans alike, who fell in love with Armisen and Brownstein’s creations of cherished recurring characters such as the uptight Dave and Kath, passionate lovers Nina and Lance, and hipsters Spyke and Iris, along with a bevy of guest stars including Kyle MacLachlan, Jeff Goldblum, and Kumail Nanjiani.

Professor Blastoff Podcast

Professor Blastoff Podcast
with Tig NotaroKyle DunniganDavid Huntsberger and Aaron Burrell

Professor Blastoff is a weekly conversation between comedian Tig Notaro and her two co-hosts and comedian friends, Kyle Dunnigan and David Huntsberger.  Each week, the hilarious trio discusses a topic of interest, typically based in science, philosophy or theology with comedian Aaron Burrell assisting in the research.  The podcast premiered at #1 on the iTunes Comedy Podcast chart in May 2011, and has recently been all over the top 10 rankings of these same charts, peaking at #1 once again.  Entertainment Weekly recently included Professor Blastoff on their “The Must List” ranked at #2.  Previous guests on the podcast include Ira Glass, Sarah Silverman, Nick Kroll, Wyatt Cenac, Nick Offerman, and Doug Benson amongst many others.

Notaro recently released a candid recording on Louis C.K.’s website Tig Notaro: Live (that last word is a verb, Notaro says, not an adjective). The release hailed much acclaim:

“Notaro’s resounding strength makes this album something that lifts the soul of the listener as much as it entertains” – Time

“It’s an amazing, uncomfortable document, as Notaro relates her recent
run of tragedy” – Rolling Stone

“Tig Notaro’s ‘Live’ lives up to its Louis C.K.-fueled hype” – Entertainment Weekly

“Tig Notaro sells 75,000 copies of Live, is technically more popular than Kiss” – A.V. Club
