SF Sketchfest Staff Picks: Jay Wertzler, Festival Systems & Operations Manager

Still combing the program for this year’s not-to-miss shows? To help you out, we’ve asked staff to share their picks for this year’s fest.

Meet Jay Wertzler, Festival Systems & Operations Manager. Jay hails from the Inner Richmond. In addition to working festivals around town, he hosts a bi-weekly quiz night, edits manuscripts for a literary non-profit in San Diego, and enjoy long naps in the sun with his cat.

 # of SF Sketchfests you’ve worked: I think this will be my 4th?!

Shows you’re most excited for this year: Charles, Thursday Jan 30, Dark Room, 8pm; Competitive Erotic Fan Fiction, Friday, Jan 31, Brava Theater, 10pm.

I saw Charles on accident at Sketchfest 2012. It was the best accident I ever made. They are a consistently inventive sketch duo from Seattle who don’t shy away from the weird. As for Competitive Erotic Fan Fiction, you can never go wrong with Ron Funches, and you can definitely never go wrong with Funches’ dulcet tones reading erotica.

Favorite SF Sketchfest memory: Interviewing Lance Crouther, who was in character as Pootie Tang, on stage at the Castro Theatre.

Favorite venue in SF: The Roxie

Jay swears, “I don’t wear JNCO jeans anymore.”

In honor of the 13th Sketchfest, Jay at 13.
