It’s already felt like a long, hard winter here in San Francisco, with temps hovering at cruel lows for over a week (a week!). But let’s not forget that there are months of vaguely winterish weather ahead of us, including January: the dreaded Boringest Month.
With that in mind, you’ll want to peruse the newly-announced lineup for SF Sketchfest’s 13th annual festival, coming to town just in time to alleviate any SAD symptoms that crop up from January 23rd to February 9th.
Among the headlining events are in-person tributes to Alan Arkin (who’ll also be teaching a an improv workshop), Tenacious D, Key & Peele and Coyle and Sharpe, as well as appearances from familiar mainstays like Michael Ian Black, Michael Showalter and Megan Mullally. Special cast screenings of Napolean Dynamite, Revenge of the Nerds, and Super Troopers are in the works, plus The Benson Movie Interruption in which Doug Benson takes on “Twilight: New Moon” (and wins, we hope).
A panel on HBO’s “Enlightened” will include Laura Dern, Luke Wilson and crew discussing the show, and a Farewell, “Futurama!” event will once again bring together John DiMaggio, Maurice LaMarche, Phil LaMarr, Lee Supercinski, Lauren Tom and Billy West. Upright Citizens Brigade, The Groundlings and Killing My Lobster are among the time-tested improv acts on offer, and look out for stand-up from the likes of Eric Andre, “An Evening of the Music of Prince” with Maya Rudolph and Gretchen Lieberum, and scads more showcases, interactive events, theater, live radio and comedy crossovers.
Sketchfest is known locally as the festival where that specific thing you really want to see got sold out immediately, so you’ll want to keep an eye out for the schedule, which will be announced Friday, December 13. Tickets go on sale Sunday, December 15 at 10:00 am, so plan according. Check out the full lineup here to get started.
