From The San Francisco Chronicle
January 6, 2008
A festival that started out as a local affair in 2001 has exploded into one of the national comedy events of the year, drawing the best of the field to multiple venues. Highlights of the 18-day lollapalooza include the Kids in the Hall, a reunion of the cast of the cult TV show “Freaks and Geeks” and stand-up by Mort Sahl, Rob Corddry, Jonathan Katz, Rachel Dratch and dozens more. Plus, among many special events will be a Castro Theatre screening of the delightfully inept Ed Wood creation “Plan 9 From Outer Space,” with live commentary by the “Mystery Science Theater 3000” crew. Sketchfest gets under way tonight at the Mezzanine with a variety show that includes a musical performance by Aimee Mann. $25. 8 p.m. Mezzanine, 444 Jesse St., San Francisco. (415) 625-8880.
