Jonathan Krisel

Jonathan Krisel is the co‐creator, co‐writer and director of Portlandia. In 2012, he received two Emmy® nominations for “Outstanding Writing for a Variety Series” and “Outstanding Directing for a Variety Series” for his work on the show.

Krisel is a graduate of NYU’s Film School. After graduation he created a Brooklyn cable access series entitled HyperDimensional Fortress. His obsession with cable access, industrial films, video art and animation was a perfect fit when Tim Heidecker and Eric Wareheim came looking for someone to help them make the Adult Swim show Tom Goes To the Mayor.  In 2007, Krisel segued into the role of director and co‐exec producer of Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job!  Again, he edited, animated and worked as one of the writers. Krisel then joined the staff of Saturday Night Live where he directed many digital shorts such as The Curse starring Jon Hamm and Zach Drops By The Set starring Zach Galifianakis. In 2009,

Jonathan started making acclaimed shorts for Funnyordie.com, such as Rich Dicks and Ed Hardy Boyz with comedian Nick Kroll. As a result, he is executive producing and directing Kroll Show for Comedy Central, which also premieres in January.
